How Do I File for Unemployment Insurance?

File an Internet Claim
To file initial claims for Unemployment Insurance via the Internet each time they become unemployed. Only one claim is filed for each period of unemployment. After your initial claim is established, you must file your continued claims on a biweekly basis. These continued claims may be filed over the telephone (Telecert) or via the Internet (Webcert, coming soon).   • You cannot use this internet claims system if:
  • You do not live in Maryland unless all your wages during the last 18 months were earned in Maryland.
  • You earned no wages in Maryland in the last 18 months.
  • You worked for the Federal Government or served in the Military in the last 18 months.
  • You are filing for the federally funded Extension of Benefits.
    NOTE: A significant delay or denial of benefits may occur if an internet claim is filed based on one of the above conditions. Instead, you must call one of the Maryland Unemployment Insurance Claim Centers to file your claim.
