How Do I File for Unemployment Insurance?

Here are some things you should know about unemployment compensation. When you become totally unemployed, you should report to the claims office that serves your area as soon as possible after you lose your job.

List of offices.

You must be either totally or partially unemployed as defined in the law. You must have sufficient wages in employment covered by a state or federal unemployment compensation law. You must be able to work and available for full-time work. In addition, if you are totally unemployed, the reason you are no longer working must be considered. Generally, you must be unemployed through no fault of your own. If you are totally unemployed, you must make an active search for work during each week. You are required to register for work with a West Virginia Job Service Office. Also, unless the Commissioner determines you have completed such services or there is justifiable cause for your failure to participate, you must participate in reemployment services offered through the Job Service Office when you are selected for profiling.
