How Do I File for Unemployment Insurance?

You may apply for Pennsylvania UC benefits if:

  • You are totally or partially unemployed and: You lived and worked in Pennsylvania during the last 18 months
  • Lived in a bordering state and worked in Pennsylvania (or multiple states) during the last 18 months
  • You are physically within Pennsylvania state boundaries and worked in more than one state (other than PA) during the last 18 months.

The Department will accept an application for benefits from another state if:

  • You are located in Pennsylvania
  • The other state does not accept applications by telephone.
