How Do I File for Unemployment Insurance?

File a claim online
Currently you will be unable to complete your claim for unemployment benefits online if , during the last 18 months:

  • You need to file for Trade Readjustment Benefits
  • You need to file for Temporary Emergency
  • Unemployment Compensation
  • Your last employer is a Canadian employer

You will need to provide the following information:

  • Your social security number.
  • Your complete mailing address, and telephone number.
  • The names, mailing addresses, telephone numbers, and dates of employment for all your employers for the last eighteen (18) months.
  • Alien registration number or Visa number if not a U.S. citizen.
  • If you worked out of state, in the military or for the federal government during the last 18 months, you will need to provide supporting documents such as the DD214 Member 4 (for military personnel) or SF-8 and SF-50, Notice of Personnel Action Form (for federal employees).
